It is fantastic to be able to announce, that we are now able to confirm the joining of our managing committee of members of charity partners Aberdeen West End FC.
Initially we have a new secretary and treasurer, who will be announced at the monthly committee meeting at the start of next month. These highly experienced additions will enable Street Friends to continue growing and expanding, but to embrace also the required standards and volunteering skills, to address our growing numbers.
It is also confirmed that FRESH, which is now newly formed as an official social enterprise will unite with Street Friends.
Both Street Friends & FRESH, are uniting together, as was always planned, to address sustainability and progression. Enabling kindness, to blossom into befriending and mentoring. Awareness to continue being promoted. As well as bringing in all aspects of lived experience, mental health, recovery, education, health - essentially all the dimensions of wellness.
It will be brought to the committee the intention to work in synergy, as a community volunteers & lived experience peer led team, on a pre-planned project. This project is being brought forward, in immediate response to the current climate and times we find ourselves in.
You can clearly see through reading the DDTF recommendations made, of which we were a part of, through our Alcohol & Drugs Action lived experience peers, some of whom are part of both the Street Friends & Fresh Community Wellness committees.
Please remember at the next Street Friends committee meeting, it will be voted upon, to make it a requirement, for all volunteers to have the full theory induction, and the ADA lived experience naloxone peer outreach training, with naloxone kits issued. It is not foreseen that any of our committee will disagree, with the need for this to be a mandatory requirement moving forwards. As part of the theory skillset, the initial befriending course of motivational interviewing, is a must, for Street Friends and FRESH alike to being in a position to assist those willing to progress to the excellent services we have locally, who all continually offer their professional support and expert advice. That way ensuring they can, when ready, begin to work towards a sustainable, safe and secure future.
